Where We Get Our Clothes and Why It Matters

When you walk into Mauve or scroll through our site, you are not just looking at a rack of clothes. You are looking at hours of decisions, conversations, and careful choices that start months before a piece ever hits the floor.
We hear it all the time: "Where do you get your clothes?" And we get why you ask. There are thousands of brands out there and a wide range of quality. It can feel impossible to know which pieces are worth your money and which ones are going to fall apart after a couple of wears.
That is exactly why we take sourcing so seriously.
How We Choose What to Carry
When we are choosing brands and pieces for Mauve, we are looking for one thing: the best possible quality at a price that feels approachable. For us, that usually means styles that can retail under $100 but are made to last more than one season.
On the style side, we are searching for pieces that are on trend but realistic. We want to carry clothes that work for a broad range of women and actually fit into everyday life, whether that is school drop-offs, date nights, running errands, Husker gameday, or grabbing dinner with friends.
At market, where we shop wholesale, there are thousands of vendors to choose from. Some are focused on low prices, which usually means the quality is not there. Others are focused on luxury pricing and exceptional quality. Our job is to find the best of both: a piece that is well made, feels good in your hands, and will not break your budget.
This is why we love going to market in person. There is no substitute for actually touching a piece, feeling the fabric, and checking the details to make sure it meets our standard.
The Standards We Hold
Not every brand makes the cut.
If a price is too high, we know it will not serve our customer. If a price is too low, that is usually an automatic sign the quality will not hold up. And if a vendor offers poor service even in their booth, that is a red flag for us. If they do not care about the details there, they are probably not paying attention to the details in their product either.
We start every buying trip with the brands we already know and trust, then branch out to explore new vendors, often through referrals from those same trusted brands. With new lines, we take our time. We discuss their business model, their manufacturing operation, their price point, and every garment with a critical eye. We would rather come home with fewer pieces than stock something that does not meet our standard.
Why It Matters for You
All of this is not just for us, it is for you. When you shop at Mauve, we want you to feel confident that you are buying something on trend but realistic for your everyday life. We want you to trust that we have already done the quality check on your behalf.
We are not here to sell clothes that fall apart after two wears. There are plenty of other options in that space. We are here to help you build a wardrobe that will last, not just physically but emotionally. A closet you can mix and match for years. A statement piece you can tie to the moments and memories you cherish.
When you take a piece home from Mauve, our hope is that you will love it just as much on your tenth wear as you did on the first. And if it ever does not meet that expectation, we want to know because that helps us protect the trust we work so hard to earn.
For Us, It Is Personal
As boutique owners, we feel this in our own lives. There is nothing worse than a piece that falls apart or starts fitting wrong after just a couple of wears. It chips away at your confidence. That is why we are so passionate about finding pieces that can last, not just a season but years.
For us, a closet is not just clothes. It is a collection of moments, memories, and little boosts of confidence. And that is what we want for you every time you shop with us.
